SUMMER IN BRIGHTON.

SPRING. Hallelujah! So we might have escaped the snow this winter but we did not escape the rain, the floods and the storm, which devastated the remains of our old West Pier. But hey, March has arrived and with it, the warm weather. Hoooorah. I, and presumably every other student in Brighton, have jumped straight on the sunshine bandwagon. In Brighton – we wanna make the most of the sun – ‘cos we’ve got a beach and yeah it’s pebbled, but it’s still a beach and we do not take it for granted. Not everyone can say, ‘yeah I’m going down to the beach today’ …and tomorrow, and the day after... After a bit of careful observation – here are the top ten things which students in Brighton do when the sun comes out.

1. Go to the beach. Obviously. Why not?
2. Drink Kopparberg outside Coalition on the beach. Again, why not?
3. Go running around Preston Park, or the seafront, to work on your bikini bod. You’ll need it for no. 4.
4. Get your bikini on, on the beach, just in case The Daily Mail photographer is hanging around waiting to get his annual front page, ‘look-how-many-people-are-on-Brighton-beach-in-the-heat-wave’ photograph.
5. Only put one extra layer on, (as opposed to 25) when heading up to Falmer campus.
6. Go to the Marina for the first time this year.
7. Ring up your friend who lives in Hull or Lincoln to tell them how much fun you’re having on the beach and how warm it is down here.
8.‘Doing your Uni work’ outside so you can kill two birds with one stone – tanning up and working on your dissertation. Five hours have passed; you’ve done no work but you have eaten three ice creams and decided you’re gonna go out tonight.
9. Go to the Lanes – get a hair braid, have a tarot card reading and take a picture of your legs in the sun – you’re not on holiday but you might as well be.
10. Moan non-stop via Twitter and Facebook about how you don’t wanna be in the library, you just want to be on the beach.

Whatever you do in the sun, I’m sure we can all agree that Brighton is the best place to be in the heat. Bring on Summer!

Favourite fashion moments from the Sex and the City gals...

Talk of a SATC 3 movie is everywhere at the moment and I couldn’t be more excited. We learnt a lot from those four gals; there was always an episode which matched our pain or one that had us in stitches when we needed a laugh. After one episode of SATC I was hooked, all I wanted to do was move to NYC and get a cocktail and a fabulous wardrobe.  Then there's the constant assessing of which one of the SATC girls you are and the phrase, ‘he’s your Mr. Big’ becoming the biggest relationship label to represent a man you can't stop going back to.

In celebration of even the PROSPECT of a new film I’ve rounded up my favourite fashion moments from all four of the girls. The good, the bad and the ugly.

MIRANDA

For some reason, when trying to work out which SATC girl you are, no one EVER wants to be Miranda. I can’t pinpoint what it is, but I’m sure outfit number one doesn’t help her case…
Come on Miranda! Really? Probably the worst outfit you could wear when almost banging into your ex and his new girlfriend.

Okay so Miranda was never going to wear a big white dress, but this upset me A LOT.

She does look stunning here though. Earrings are definitely my jewellery of choice for Miranda.

SAMANTHA

Oh Sam, where do we start?! If she's not covered in Sushi or posing with Miley she's dressed head to toe in black PVC.

My all time favourites from Samantha are this classy gold number and the red dress she wore when she picked up 'Mr. Too Big'.

CHARLOTTE

Charlotte's style was always of the very elegant, prim and proper, girl-next-door variety. Who didn't love it when Charlotte plucked up the courage and strolled out of her apartment building (looking like this) to attend Brady's birthday bash? Go girrrrl.

She even looked gorgeous when she ran into big, nine months pregnant and fled the restaurant, taking half the table and cutlery with her...

Can't say much about this tartan number but maybe that's a problem with Trey rather than the dress? She definitely made up for it at the wedding though...FINALLY,  a big white poofy dress! We knew we could rely on Charlotte for that one...

CARRIE
It was never going to be easy was it? Picking Carrie Bradshaw's favourite outfits? Well I narrowed it down as best I could.

As Big said, interesting choice of dress, but we all loved 'The Naked Dress' and Carrie did look hot, albeit yes, naked.

Carrie has definitely had some questionable outfits. These four were definitely a fashion faux pas but to be fair to Carrie she was heading to an S & M party in the third...

But who can forget Carrie's Vivienne Westwood wedding dress? And the all in white number she wore standing outside Big and Natasha's engagement party at the plaza?

Maybe some women aren't meant to be tamedMaybe they just need to run free...

I hated Aleksandr Petrovsky and the only thing I liked about Carrie being in Paris was when Miranda tells Big to 'go get our girl' and off he flies on his private jet to collect Carrie and take her back to NYC where she clearly belongs. This as well as, of course, her Parisian outfits...

After a very imbalanced summary of the girls' outfits I can't wait to see what's next in store. Fingers crossed! xox

SPRING SHOES

I love Spring because there's this new found energy amongst people. There's always that one day right at the start of Spring where the weather is beautifully sunny and mild and everyone starts to remember Summer; people optimistically where shorts (even though it's only about 12 degrees) and eat ice cream. In the depths of winter when it's dark at three o'clock and everything seems so dull and bleak, it's hard to imagine you were down Brighton beach only a few months ago, sipping on a Bulmers and spending your wages on the Pier. Then all of a sudden, hello Spring! Everyone comes alive and the prospect of Summer seems real and closer than ever!

Spring is just around the corner, and one thing I'm loving is Spring shoes - beautiful new collections of heeled sandals and chunky pastel coloured boots.

Slogan Sweaters and Sporty Chic

I'm loving two SS14 trends at the moment, firstly all things pastel and secondly, logos, slogans and vintage sporty wear. Check out these amazing looks!

ASOS Exclusive

When searching for vintage pieces like this, places like ASOS Marketplace and eBay are a GOLDMINE! You won't find authentic one-off pieces in High Street/online fashion stores because they are not being mass produced anymore. The people you see wearing old-school Adidas for example, will have found them in charity shops or have probably done what I did with the Tommy Hilfiger oversized sweater dress above - spent hours searching online until you track one down! Etsy is also a good resource! Obviously there are pieces which are still being produced - the exclusive to ASOS Ellesse jumper above is beautiful and online NOW! xox
